Cars to cost more from January 2016!!!

Leading car makers of the country such as Maruti, Hyundai, Toyota are hiking the prices of their vehicles by up to 3 percent from January 2016, which means the prices of cars will cost more from next year.

                                                                            

With the Indian rupee falling to a two year low against the US dollar and the rising costs, car makers in the country have decided to hike the price of their vehicles across all models.

So, which company is hiking the prices of its car and by how much? Let's take a look!

                                          

Maruti Suzuki India: India's leading car manufacturer announced Thursday that it will hike the prices of its vehicles across all models by up to Rs 20,000, the lowest among all the hikes in the upper end. Currently, MSI sells a range of vehicles starting from the entry level small car Alto 800 to the S-Cross with price ranging between Rs 2.53 lakh and Rs 13.74 lakh (all prices ex-showroom Delhi).

                                               

Hyundai Motors: The South Korean company announced a hike in the price of its vehicles by up to Rs 30,000 on Wednesday citing challenging market conditions.India`s second-largest carmaker by sales and the country`s largest exporter, Hyundai said it was “constrained to consider the price increase on account of factors like increase in cost of components, weak rupee etc”.

                                             

Toyota Kirloskar Motor: In one of the steapest hikes, Toyota Kirloskar Motor said it was hiking the price of its vehicles across all models by up to 3 percent or Rs Rs 3.8 lakh from January. However, with the price of Toyota vehicles starting from Rs 5 lakh onwards, the minimum hike would be Rs 10,000, which is 2 percent, the minimum percentage hike by the company.

                                                   

Mercedes-Benz India: The luxury car maker announced that it would hike the prices of its vehicles across all models by up to 2 percent from January 2016. The German carmaker sells a range of 24 models in India, starting with the A-Class, priced at Rs 27.5 lakh, going up to Rs 2.7 crore for the S63 AMG coupe (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi). This means that the minimum hike will be Rs 55,000 while the maximum hike will be Rs 5.4 lakh.

                                                                                                            

BMW India: The German luxury car maker was the first to announced hike in the prices of vehicles from January 2016 by up to 2 percent. And with the price of their cars ranging from Rs 28.5 lakh to Rs 2.29 crore, it means the minimum hike would be Rs 57,000 while the maximum hike would be Rs 4.58 lakh.

                                                

Renault, Nissan, Skoda and Audi: Though no official announcements have been made, it is very likely that these car makers are also expected to hike the prices of their vehicles by up to 3 percent in order to meet the rising cost.

Chinese researchers unveil brain-powered car

China's first mind-controlled car has been developed by researchers in the north-east port city of Tianjin.Chinese researchers have developed what they say is the country's first car that uses nothing but brain power to drive.

The research team from Nankai University, in the north-eastern Chinese port city of Tianjin, has spent two years bringing the mind-controlled vehicle to reality.

By wearing brain signal-reading equipment a driver can control the car to go forward, backwards, come to a stop, and both lock and unlock the vehicle, all without moving their hands or feet.

Researcher Zhang Zhao told Reuters the equipment comprises 16 sensors that capture EEG (electroencephalogram) signals from the driver's brain. They developed a computer program that selects the relevant signals and translates them, enabling control of the car.

"The tester's EEG signals are picked up by this (brain signal-reading) equipment and transmitted wirelessly to the computer. The computer processes the signals to categorize and recognize people's intention, then translates them into control command to the car. The core of the whole flow is to process the EEG signals, which is done on the computer," said Zhang.

                                                    

Associate Professor Duan Feng, from the university's College of Computer and Control Engineering, led the project. He emphasized that the technology is aimed at better serving human beings, and that it might soon be possible to combine brain controlled technology and driverless cars, such as the Google Self Driving Car (SDC).

"Driverless cars' further development can bring more benefits to us, since we can better realize functions relating to brain controlling with the help of the driverless cars' platform," said Duan. "In the end, cars, whether driverless or not, and machines are serving for people. Under such circumstances, people's intentions must be recognized. In our project, it makes the cars better serve human beings."

Duan said worries about potential road accidents caused by the driver being distracted while their brain was in control of his team's car were unfounded, because concentration was needed only when changing the vehicle's moving status, i.e. changing lanes or turning. Whether such an application would be enough to persuade drivers to get behind the wheel and control a car with their mind is far from certain, though.

The researchers say their initial idea was inspired by helping disabled people who are physically unable to steer cars.

"There are two starting points of this project. The first one is to provide a driving method without using hands or feet for the disabled who are unable to move freely; and secondly, to provide healthy people with a new and more intellectualized driving mode," Zhang said.

At present the vehicle, in collaboration with Chinese car manufacturer Great Wall Motor, can only drive in a straight direction, and there are no plans to put it into production.

Tesla recalls all 90000 Model S cars to check seat belts!!.

                                                     

                   

Tesla Motors Inc. said it’s conducting its largest-ever recall of all 90,000 Model S cars because of a single report of a front seat belt not being properly connected. The shares fell.

“Tesla recently found a Model S in Europe with a front seat belt that was not properly connected to the outboard lap pretensioner,” the company said in an e-mail to customers Friday. “This vehicle was not involved in a crash and there were no injuries. However, in the event of a crash, a seat belt in this condition would not provide full protection.”

Tesla began delivering the Model S to customers in June 2012. The company doesn’t have model years but all variants of the vehicle, including the P85D, are affected by the voluntary recall. Tesla shares slid 1.9% to $217.59 at 2:38pm New York time.

The recall will raise questions for those who are bearish about the stock, “but we estimate the cost is not material and shows Tesla’s heightened focus on safety,” said Ben Kallo, a Robert W. Baird & Co. analyst who rates the shares neutral. “Tesla has made safety a focus in the design and development of both the Model S and Model X” sport utility vehicle.

Tesla was alerted to the seat belt issue by a customer in Europe two weeks ago and moved to inspect 3,000 vehicles and its assembly process. The Palo Alto, California-based company said it has found no other issues, but wants owners to bring their cars in to make sure the seat belts are properly connected. They are being advised to book an appointment for the inspections.

“In early November, a customer sitting in the front passenger seat turned to speak with occupants in the rear and the seat belt became disconnected,” a Tesla representative said. “The seat belt is anchored to the outboard lap pretensioner through two anchor plates that are bolted together. The bolt that was supposed to tie the two anchors together wasn’t properly assembled.”

With just the one confirmed incident, Tesla may not have been required to do a recall, but that isn’t what drives the company’s decision-making, said Diarmuid O’Connell, the company’s vice president for business development.

Two-wheeler major TVS Motor has lined up three major launches in the next six months. 

Addressing shareholders at the company's 23rd Annual General Meeting today, Venu Srinivasan, chairman, TVS Motor Company Ltd said that a new four-stroke Moped, a new TVS Victor and Apache 200cc will be launched in the next six months.

He added that the launch of TVS Victor will strengthen company's presence in the executive segment, where it has low presence.

Srinivasan said 2014-15 was relatively a slow year, but 2016-17 will be "dramatic" for the two-wheeler and for automobile industry. The current fiscal, he said, will continue to be slow.

Saying that the slowdown in the rural economy has affected the two-wheeler industry, Srinivasan said that while the growth in the first half was 16%, growth in the second half was a marginally 1%. In 2014-15, company sold 24.1 lakh two wheelers, up 20.9% as compared to 2013-14 sales.

Srinivasan said the company's market share has increased to 13.2% from 11.8% in the previous year.

Commercial vehicles will have ABS and speed limiters compulsory from 1st October 2015. Only vehicles made after the aforementioned date will require to have this addition.

Commercial vehicles in India are set to get much safer than they are today. From October 1st, 2015, all commercial vehicles will have to be equipped with ABS and a speed limiter. ABS will only be made compulsory on vehicles that weigh 12 tons or more and will include multi axle and tractor-trailer type vehicles across the country.

The speed limit for vehicles will be limited to 80 kmph for all large commercial vehicles. Manufacturers like Tata motors already implement the speed limiter on most of their cars although it is not across their range. The new rulings will enforce the speed limited across most of its large vehicle range including the Tata 407 truck.


The new rulings will effectively be imposed on the 1st of October but only applicable on vehicles made after that day. This means that all vehicles made before that date and in stock at various stockyards across the country can still be sold and registered even after the aforementioned date. Certain sections of the country will also impose a BS4 emissions norm on smaller commercial vehicles across the country on the aforementioned date. These areas will mainly include north Indian regions in and around the NCR area and other major metros in India.
