v
DDiS stands for “Direct Diesel Injection System”
v
DDiS consists
of fixed / variable geometry turbocharger. Swift and Dzire features fixed
geometry while in case of SX4 variable geometry turbocharger is on duty.
v
Turbocharger is
basically a mechanism to increase the available quantity of oxygen in
combustion chamber thus enhancing engine performance.
v
Turbocharger are driven by exhaust gases,
there is no extra load on the engine.
v
Once the output of the engine reaches a
certain pre-defined level the exhaust gases are fed into the inlet passage so
as to increase the available air inside the combustion chamber. More air
injected into the engine helps in increasing the engines performance.
v
Third essential
part of DDiS technology is the
intercooler. Intercooler helps increase the efficiency of the combustion
process.
v
Since the air temperature increases thanks by
being compressed in the turbocharger, this hot air if fed into the combustion chamber
would result in before pre-defined time ignition of the air fuel mixture in the
chamber – This phenomena is called ‘Detonation’.
v
This before
time combustion of air fuel mixture is not only harmful to the engine but it
also reduces its overall performance efficiency. Detonation reduces car’s fuel
mileage and increases harmful emissions.
v
In this technology multi step injection is done due to this
technology engine produce less noise & less vibration.
v
The new diesel engine is 65- 70 kg heavier than the petrol counterpart.
v The lightest diesel engine, endowing it with a high power-to-weight ratio. With a total displacement of 1,248cc, the DDiS engine puts out a peak power of 75bhp (5bhp more than the European version) at 4,000 rpm.
